2000s

The 2000s saw a new wave of digitization increased access to information. Newspaper ads became increasingly scarce; it became better to place ads on T.V. and online rather than in newspapers. Representation became much greater during this time. The Native American Student Association hosted annual powwows since 2003. The Black Student Union sponsored several programs to promote awareness toward African-American issues during Black History Month. The first international night hosted by the International Student’s Organization began in 2008. Students still voiced their political opinions during this time such as concerns about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and how to end them. Volunteer efforts remained a constant for students. Organizations such as University Ministry, Greek life, and residence life pooled together for Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts. The introduction of the Rave Alert system in 2009 is a mark of an increasingly digitized world.
