Ayres, Battle House, Mob il e, A1 abarn a. Dear Harral:- I am just in receipt of yours of trie 20th and 31sto With reference to the <.'150 check you sent me, I am sure you have received rny letter before now advising you that the check Was received the next day after I wrote you that I couldn't find it. Our Houston trip was blown up this morning on account of Judge McCrory having a case here in court that was continued from Saturday to Wednesday of this week. Nobody disappointed, however, but ourselves. As I have made three dates and rained out twice and got sick once, I am not going to make any more dates until we are ready to leave town then I will make our dates by wire. I am going to Three Rivers this afternoon9 and San Diego tomorrow, with the hopes of working out that problem. I will go from there to Corpus Christi in the interest of the 'beach drive and if I don't have any luck with the Live Oak-Duval County people I will take up the matter with the people on the SAP on my return from Corpus. It will only be a mighty few weeks until Congress will make another appropriation for road construction and there will be ten times as many applicants as there will be money at the first Highway Commission meeting after the appropriation is passed, and that means we must get something definite at once or we will be pnable to secure any Federal aid for twelve months. I feel like a great deal of the Mathis trouble was caused by the inefficiency of the people in charge of that district working under the special law, and I think the people themselveswere about ’fed-up" on the way things were going. The County Judge really seems to be a pretty clever chap. I believe he will give Mathis due consideration on their problems. At least he was able to present something definite to the Highway Commission in order that they could assist him. Some of the Mathis people still believe there is a possibility of the Old Spanish Trail going from Three Rivers by Mathis and Judge McCrory recommended that we give them some State aid on two of m their bridges hoping that that would stimulate our cause. I really feel now that things will go along in Mathis with less = whining' than heretofore.
