Dear Harral:- Baird returned this morning from Beaumont and reported that McDonald was on the jury this week and he didn't think it was possible to do anything without Mao's help. I wrote him Saturday not to come back until he got $1,000 and wired him yesterday not to come back untui ho got $500, but the telegram was delayed and he didn't get it before the train came along and he cams in. The Houston Chamber of Commerce has sold about twelve or fifteen carloads of Valley products for next week and it is going to take practically everything they have left to supply this order and they have been holding up on the San Antonio project. Dr. Johnston and myself decided that it was out of the question to put on a banquet with Valley products on the 18th. Besides that the other details were not in shape to permit of going any further and after discussing it with Or. Johnston we decided to postpone it. I told Baird that whenever he got the proposition ir. some feasible shape that we would give him all the help possible in every way we could but that we were not going to permit of any other dates being made with the Governor of any other arrangements for the ballroom until he had a definite plan on foot. Dr. Johnston and I are going to try to work out the plans for him ourselves. I expect to spend Friday in Live Oak County. The other counties, seem to be on easy street with their -bona issue, but there has been a constant campaign carried on/inLive Oak by the people of Oakville and Banker Miller of Mathis in the lower end of the county. I am planning to have a number of people get out all voters favorable to the bond issue at Fait sett, Simmons, Three Divers and Gorge Vest. I think this will be better than trying to carry the doubtful boxes. Corpus Christi has gotten us the designation. They went before the Highway Department the next day after we were there and raised so much sand about the Commission considering the other route that they made the Commissioners sore .and they recommended the Old Spanish Trail route for a major designation and sent the recommendation into Washington. But of course if any cf these counties fall down on their bond issues we will be blowed up again.
