Ayres, Managing Director, Old Spanish Trail, 435 Star Building, Washington, Do C® My Dear Ayres: It vras with extremely gratifying pleasure that I noted the success of your endeavors towards nationalizing the "old Spanish Trail" as portrayed by the culmination of your activities and voiced through the public press of recent data® I have before me your circular of July 11th® ar.d 7/1 sh to advise that I am of the opinion that this announcement in itself will do more to crystalisa the sentiment in favor of the "old Spanish Trail" between New Orleans and San Antonio than any other one feature, and I congratulate you heartily upon the wonderful work you have done since associating yourself with the old Spanish Trail Association® An opportunity was accorded ms of giving the correct status of the "old Spanish Trail" through Louisiana to the Rand-McRally people this past month and I took particular pains to stress ths original movement as being the location of the Old Spanish Trail from New Orleans to Houston, and to show wherein all other highways claiming entrance through the territory are, in reality, following the route of the originally designated and recognized trans-continental highway from Florida to California, vis: "The old Spanish Trail". Just felt that I wanted to express to you my personal thoughts concerning your splendid success in securing recognition by the War Department ar.d Congress of the "old Spanish Trail". With ovary good wish for your continued success and •with every esteem. /) Cordially, HERBERT BAYLISS
