San Antonio, Texas, February 17th, 1923 Mr. H. B. Ayres, Mobil-e, Alabama. Dear Harral:- Please have some of the big nurserymen dovm there write to Mrs. J. C. Myrick, Chairman Good Roads Committee of the Federation of Women's Clubs at Harlingen, quoting prices of palms delivered to the various towns along the Valley. The Valley nurserymen are not going to be able to furnish half the number of palms and the indications are they are going to want to get rich off this one job. If we can get some outside competition I think we can get about a third or twice as many palms planted this year as we would otherwise. Enclosed please find "re-hash" of some thunder that I have stolen or managed for and fit it to the occasion as best I could and I think it will get in nearly all the papers in the Valley. Am also enclosing clippingfrora the Brownsville Herald which is self-explanatory. The new president of the Chamber of Commerce, Gerald Meliff, I think is going topork with us on the Valley proposition. Several days ago he wrote me a personal letter asking me to make some suggestions as ,to what the chamber of commerce could do to help in this matter, and then he sent out a questionnaire to all the membership telling them of the big things the Chasrber of Commerce wanted to do this year, and the second article was Hal Brownsville Valley proposition. Very truly yours DEC:AH
