major problems we must no longer delay in solving. Dirt sections where bogging in wet weather might result arc now reduced to very few miles. Paving is beginning on considerable stretches where road surfaces have worn away, but for a generation to come paving and other improvements will be in progress along the Old Spanish Trail for it is the basic trunkline of the South and its territory is rich with attraction and is at the commencement of its industrial and agricultural development.
Bridge Progress
Florida is completing all her bridges. From the Louisiana line to the Pacific Coast all bridges are built. The Old Spanish Trail is the best road from the Mississippi River to California and travel is taking that route. From New Orleans to Florida the Lake Pontchartrain district in East Louisiana, the Bay of St. Louis and Biloxi Bay in Mississippi, and Mobile Bay in Alabama, involve 25 miles of problems. Construction however has been in progress around Lake Pontchartrain for several years; that long section should soon be opened. The other waterways arc in process of financing and bridging. With the Lake Pontchartrain section open the temain-ing ferries will be minor problems.

decade. The Southern Borderlands from Florida to California are even now ready for the tourist, traveler and homeseeker. The interest of the people is thoroughly emphasized by the extent and character of their inquiries. Old Spanish Trail officials and directors will spend time now to meet and confer with the people from St. Augustine to San Diego, planning the policies for developing travel service along the highway, publishing travel information for general distribution, gathering photos, and in every way possible aiding the work the members want done.

Plenty of Work Ahead
These is a power of work yet to be done if the Old Spanish Trail is to be developed to a high point of efficiency as the trunkline artery across the South and if the Nation is to be educated regarding its attractions, its service to travelers, and its opportunities for the home seeker. The work to be done is as big and as hard as that of the past years to get the construction program under way but it will be more interesting for the returns will be more prompt and everyone from St. Augustine to San Diego can find pleasure helping to bring the auto traveler to the highway )J and its attractive territory.
