Aerial view of the East Pascagoula River bridges looking west. The bridges (from left) are the CSX Railroad Bridge (first built in 1870), the 1954 four-lane Highway 90 automobile drawbridge, and the 2003 eight-lane High-Rise Bridge. In the photo made on June 13, 2003 westbound traffic is passing over the high-rise and east-bound traffic is passing over the 1954 bridge. The westbound lanes opened on May 2, 2003. The eastbound lanes opened on June 23, 2003. One block south of the 1954 drawbridge is the foot of Live Oak Street. From 1918 to 1928 gasoline and diesel-powered ferry boats carried traffic across the river from that point to the road on the west side of the river near the 1954 bridge head. Front cover Aerial view of the East Pascagoula River bridges looking north. The draw of the CSX railroad bridge stands in the open position. Eastbound traffic passes over the 1954 four-lane drawbridge nestled in the shadow of the 2003 eight-lane High-Rise over which westbound traffic is moving. North of the High-Rise is a panoramic view of a portion of the Pascagoula River estuaurine delta. Cover photos taken by Tommy Triplett on June 13, 2003.
