OLD SPANISH TRAIL ASSOCIATION. The Old Spanish Trail Association was formed at -Mobile, Alabama, December 11th, 1915, the object of organization being to endeavor to have constructed by the Southern States of the United States an ocean-to ocean highway which would be travelable at all seasons of the year, and which, if necessity should arise, could be used as a military highway for the protection of our country from invasion along the Southern border. The organization is non-political and non-partisan, its function is to co-operate with other organizations in the encouragement of the building of a good, permanent road along the entire Southern boundary of the United Stales, from the eastern coast of Florida to the western coast of California. Pursuant to instructions of the Old Spanish Trail Convention held at the City of Pensacola, in the State of Florida, on the 11th and 12th days of December, 1916, the President and Secretary of the Old Spanish Trail Association, in whom was vested the power and duty of selecting a city for the next convention of the Association, have selected the City of Tallahassee, in the State of Florida, as the place for holding the next convention of the Old Spanish Trail Association, and have fixed May 18th and 19th, 1917, as the time for such convention. Now, therefore, the Old Spanish Trail Association calls the Third Old Spanish Trail Convention to meet at the Leon High School Auditorium in the City of Tallahassee, Florida, Friday and Saturday, May 18th and 19th, 1917, to consider, among others, the following questions: Condition of the Old Spanish Trail Highway in the States traversed, and the measures necessary to facilitate ils completion. Co-operation of counties in bridge building. State aid in addition to Federal aid for all trans-continental highways and rural mail routes. Bond issues for roads and bridges as an aid to agricultural development. All persons interested in the building of better roads and bridges in this country, and particularly all boards of trade, chambers of commerce, and all other commercial and farmers’ organizations, are invited to participate, either individually or by appointment of delegates, in a practical and constructive discussion of policies and practices necessary to be employed to hasten the completion of the Old Spanish Trail Highway from ocean to ocean. Tn addition to prepared addresses by authorities on the topics mentioned, the Convention will allow five-minute reports to be made by the delegates representing the states traversed by the Old Spanish Trail Highway, as to condition of the highway in their sections. The Convention will thus offer exceptional opportunity for the delegates to obtain information, as well as the benefits of the addresses in the Convention sessions. The Old Spanish Trail Highway will be of the most vital moment to the United States, furnishing an all-Southern, all-season, oceau-to-oeeau highway for pleasure tours, and if the need arises, it will he the most important military highway in the 3
