This is all historical country of great interest, particularly El Paso and Juarez, also Isleta which is probably the oldest town in Texas, founded about 1683. The Mission was first established beside the Rio Grande in northern Mexico, but after the Indian rebellion of 16S0, it was re-established in Isleta. The old Mission, now the church at Juarez, became the refuge for the survivors of the Indian rebellion. In the next several years a number of missions were established in this part of the valley and the attacks of the Indians and their proselyting of the Christian Indians was slowly overcome, and this valley became one of the ancient and promising centers of Spanish civilization. With the ever increasing popularity of the Old Spanish Trail, a visit to El Paso without a visit to Juarez is to miss two of the outstanding points of interest on the western border.
