San Antonio, Tex. Hay 23rd, 1923. Hr. Jno. G. Nicholson, Pres., Meridian Highway Assn., Newton, Kansas. Dear Mr. Nicholson: The enclosed clipping jndieates Mr. Colp as Texas president of your organization. My recollection was in correspondence last fall it developed he was not. Since we removed him from this organization, he has started what is called a "Glacier to Gulf" highway and is using all these claimed relations with other highways to gather money around hero, and he is seriously hurting the legitimate work. At our annual convention, we adopted a southern trunkline system in an offort to draw the leading constructive forces together on a series of overland highways that should he promptly completed. Also to emphasize the fact there were legitimately established highway projects that did not recognize the numerous personal promoters. You will see that the Meridian was included in this system. Sometimes I think it would he wiser for the Old Spanish Trail to seek its Mexico City extension through laredo. We have always laid off this route, recognizing it belonged to the Meridian Highway, hut with various promoters ringing in on this Meridian Highway route in this section I sometimes think the situation would really he strengthened if the Meridian and the Old Spanish Trail recognized each other, and that we used our strength in this country to put it through. This, however, is just an intangible thought for we have undertaken, hut not entirely settled, our routing through Brownsville. With best wishes, I am Very truly. HBA: vo H. B.
