Four years have pa.ssed since West Texas became a part od the Old Spanish Trail movement. In this period a great deal has been done to establish the Old Spanish Trail as a national transcontinental highway. In West r,’s>ras the towns Lave contributed very well in proportion to their ability. it is not always realized, however, that the Sail Antonio--Hi Paso distance embraces 593 miles, and that the towns are small and scattered and that gross revenues, in consequence, fjgucon out very small. The record shows a total of 05,790,50 received from West Texas memberships for four years, August 1, 13i9 to August 1, 1903. This is an average of $1,447.62 per year. $1,447.63 a year rwj.ll not take care odf much field work, auto and hater expenses, salaries, etc., in addition to the expenses at Headquarters.
Headquarters will be glad to give to any member detailed information respecting these finances.
The road from San Antonio to El Paso should be re-marked, but this would cost $1,500.00. Constant effort should be kept up to get the remaining counties into cnmtruct'nion. Service Maps should be kept in circulate on nationally and many other things should be done to make the West Texas country known to the people, and comfortable for travel.
