Tallowing up my letter of the 17th,I am in-closi ig strip of a Texas map,showing the route of the Old Spanish Trail from Laredo to Gan Antonio. The main trail al solutely went through Laredo,but,as Monclova was for lerly the capital of the State of Coahuila,at that time there ..as anoth r route direct from Monclova via "'apis Pass.Thfes was secondary. The main trail went from Laredo to Fort Ewell on the Nueces river,a few miles northwest of a ranch called ’Burke”. This belong ed to an old lady,Ers.Xxam drmanda Burke, ■..’ho died several years ago on the ranc' .She drove cattle in the Id days over the trail. It then vie t tc a point called "San Miguel” by the Mexicans and si iply "Miguel" b the Americans,you can find it under this name on the map. The grandmother of our City Secretary,Mr.Apolonio Garcia,danced with General Santa Anna when he eas in Laredo,on the site where now stands the Merchants State Bank. Judge J.I'.Bector,one of our old-time attorneys,still,living here,interviewed Santa Anna in Mexico Cits'-.. There aro suite a mumber of men who ki ..w a lit about the o? 3 history.
