New Orleans Association of Commerce August 8, 19220 Mr. Ho B. Ayres, Managing Director, Old Spanish Trail, San Antonio, Texas, Dear Mr. Ayres: - Old Spanish Trail - When you were in my office the other day, you will remember that I dictated a lot-ter to Congressman James O'Connor, in whos8 district the New Orleans link of the Spanish Trail lies. Mr, O'Connor came to the office today and we discussed the matter in detail. He is deeply interested and has told me that he will get behind the movement in every way that he can. On his return to Washington in a few days h9 will call upon the War Department and discuss with them their plans and what they are prepared to do to to further its development. He will also discuss the matter with the Highway Commission of the Government. I am asking the Stats Highway Department of Louisiana to advise me fully what they have done and what they are prepared to do for the completion of this link. J. will also ask the State Highway Commission of Mississippi for a report on what they are doing and will forward these reports to Mr. O’Connor. I would suggest that you write to him at length and give him all the information you can. I think that these reports and the information that he can gain at Washington -will give us a good starting point to put same strong propaganda behind the movement. I think the idea I discussed with you of arousing the people all along the entire length of the Old Spanish Trail to the need for the adequate completion of the New Orleans link, together with the bridges, could be carried out. Very truly, A WP. S V/alter Parker, General Manager, NEW ORLEANS: AMERICA'S MOST INTERESTING CITY,
