Gulf Hammock, Fla. April 22nd 1930. Dear 3a'._ Ayres, Have just finished reading in the Jacksonville paper of the Honor bestowed upon you by the king of Spain in recognition of your years of work for the development of the highway linking San Augustine with San Dieago. I want to be one of your friends to congratulate you------also I wish to opoligize too-------and for what? './ell, do you remember how it seemed to please me to criticise the entire system and ivhpever was responsible for it, in not having go places in my opinion it should, and how I questioned if the man authorizing the signs as to which way several converging roads were headed for; cross roads, also markings for ^ast, South, Worth and ./est, knew a thing ab&ut what a mess it all was for the'traveler through Texas; and do you remember how fussed I was when you would try to explain how hard it was to get co-operation from '"These Southern farmers''? Now here is where the opoligy comes in--------we are in Flordia where we have been for two years. The roads are marvelous, but what is more to the point, the markings are perfect at cross roads, any old road; one would just be in the moodd to want to get lost if it happened to him in this State. The bridges have the name of the streams plainly marked on them too. So, if you had anything to do with all that down here let me 3ay "I am sorry" provided you have gotten buisy and finiully put tnis same perfect marking over the State of Texas. 7/e live oh the west Coast in the midst of a million Dollars worth of Natuxtal scenery; a fisher .an's paradise; woods full of game. Ily husband is connected with the Groves-Dowling -Mim .er Company as deceiver. Do you remember 3'r. Groves of Chill 'ionic fame, and the man who built the famous Groves inn at A-shville, N.C.? He started this Lumber Company here with the Dolwings, and then he died, i\is Estate was in the hands of the St.Louis Trust Co. and they sent horenzo here to represent them, complications being such a Receivership became necessary* Our lives here have been full of exc it merit and work, being as v,e were the
