ALICE TEXAS. April 10th, 1923 Mr. H. B. Ayres, Battle House, Mobile, Alabama. Dear Harral:- I am just in receipt of your main letter of the 7th which was delayed on account of postage due, two cents. I have read)C the clippings ard am herewith returning them. I read your report very carefuly the second time. This is the first time lately that you have given me anything in detail with^ reference to your work over there. I feel like now that IMlcindcC understand it and a great deal more about the Old Spanish Trail in that section of the country. I can’t figure out where you are going to get time to leave your proposition there and come over here unless you make a trip in a terrible rush. It seems to me that you could use about two good assistants, if you had them or could get them, and get that work all financed and caught up with while you have to stay on the job and w&tch the bridge business, but of course getting men to do this work is a different proposition. Most of them that are capable of doing it have good jobs. You state that Senator Rogers has resigned as President of the Highway Commission. Why don’t you commercialize a little politics and get the Mobile people to have Senator Craft made President of the Commission? He would certainly make a good one and would tie the Commission a good deal closer to Mobile. It is little things like this that will make it easier for you in the future, but of course you have had so many big things to handle you probably didn’t have time to think of little things, but after all this is really the big thing when you do^i/fc from a true angle. Orange County voted her $700,000 said I sent you a clipping to that effect. Shreve has been tied up in Houston now for two weeks except he ran down to Beaumont and Orange on the train and secured eleven ads and this will enable us to go ahead and get out the Section Map as soon as he can finish up some of the uncompleted towns between Houston and San Antonio. I I I am afraid we will not be able to make the Houston-Browns^ ville trip before next week, provided it doesn't rain anymore.
