he asked me to take the natter up with you, and ascertain your views with reference to the date for the annual meeting, before committing himself in any way to the New Orleans people.
If the ideas of those who framed and adopted the Bay St. Louis resolution are carried out, the next meeting would b9 held at New Orleans, in connection with the annual meeting of the Old Spanish Trail. The resolution contemplated an invitation to the Governors, State Highway Engineers, State Highway Commissioners, Senators and Congressmen of those states and districts through which the Old Spanish Trail is routed. Should the officials of the Old Spanish Trail decide to hold a meeting of the magnitude and importance outlined in the resolution, there is a good sized job ahead for somebody, and ample time should be taken to permit the vast amount of essential detail work to be done, in an intelligent, orderly and thorough manner.
On the other hand, if the conference is to be one of communities from Pensacola to New Orleans inclusive, it will be a much simpler proposition to handle, and an earlier date could be selected. Hr. Cochrane v/ill be absent from Kobile for the greater part of the time until JJecember 8th or 10th. If you think it desirableto have a conference of these eastern comnunities at New Orleans the week of the 11th, he will be glad to attend it, and I am sure we will be able to get a representative and good sized gathering, even though it is rather close to the holiday season.
Without any desire of having my personal ideas prevail, and merely as a suggestion, I submit for your consideration the thought that the suggested New Orleans annual meeting of the Old Spanish Trail Association offers a splendid opportunity to put much needed strength behind your national organization.
You are more familiar with the general situation than I, and we will meet your views, both as to the character of the meeting and the dates, and will do our best to make the occasion a success.
