Just wired you Caneron and Jim '.Veils carried their bend issue and Live Oak and Orange defeated. The district at Brownsville failed and this may delay the financing of Cameron County temporarily but not more than sisty days at the outside. He already have a scheme on foot to get her financed.
I am leaving here late this afternoon cfc tonight as soon as I can get away, with Colonel Orecilius and expect to go to Three Hivers tonight and the committee will join us there tomorrow morning, He will go to Simmons and from Simmons direct to San Diego. The enclosed sketch •will give you an approximate idea of t. e location of the read, and the district bonds on hand are sufficient to take care of the highway from Whit sett to the south line of the Simmons district. Will have to make another district in the western edge of Live Oak County and a district for Duval County. This will not change the Jim Hells proposition any because all three of the commissioners promise me now that they will let the Houston,Beeville, Mathis and Alice designation stand which they have already granted. Judge McCrory recommends the San Diego route with the understanding that they will give the ‘SAP people the Corpus Christ! designation which ‘..'ill give Ban Antonio what they wanted to Corpus. If they don't it will only be about twenty miles out of the way to go by San Diego and Alice. This seems to be the best thing we can do at present.
Orange is going to order another election at once, but I want to get down there and organise them if possible before they call this election.
I have been trying to see Dr. Johnston all day but up to the present time, 4 p.m., have been unable to get in touch with him. Am going to try to get him to take Baird and go to Beaumont the latter part of this week and try and get $1,000. I guess there is no use in talking about getting anything at Orange until after their bond issue election is carried.
I notice from the clippings that you are certainly getting some fine publicity and doing great work, but I hope that you won't hurry away and let the enthusiasm die out before you get the money.
