3 I received your letter enclosing Bankhead clippings and I will certainly use these to good advantage. The Phoenix meeting was almost a failure compared to former conventions. There were only about 350 people attended the convention outside of their own local people, and the most of the 350 were from California and Western Arizona. Rountree did exactly what I thought he would do; tried to promote a road from El Paso to Mexico City. But this is almost impossible as long as Mexico is in her present financial condition. However, it is a strong talking point for the Bankhead people in certain localities. They are supposed to put on their big campaign and extend their road from lit. Pleasant to Laredo next month, but I don't think they will get south of Georgetown with it. Baredo is the only place south of there that has paid any attention to the proposition ana I think I fixed the Laredo people the other day. At least, they told me they would not be active in the matter any furthers and would concentrate on the Meridian and the International Peace Highway. I am enclosing you a clipping from the Houston Chronicle of yesterday with reference to the OST work in South Texas. This gives you about all the explanation I could give you and contains al' I know about it and more, too. We are having trouble with Jim Tells County. The Commissioners' Court down there got some people to enjoin them from selling their bonds last Monday and the matter was carried to the district court and the case will be heard some time this week. I am going to give them a lively chase tho. The case will be heard before District Judge Boone of Corpus Christi and you know what that means, but I am going to fight him with the Highway Department and the Attorney General's Department. So you see I have some job on my hands for this week. DEC:AH Very truly ycurs.,
