Spanish History Research Library, 112 College Street, St. Mary's Academy Building. October IS, 1933 Dear Mrs„ Adatns: Your constant and fine interest in art work prompts me to write this....my appreciation of you individual^, also. After somet'ing over a year of planning and of work we have produced an art-work drawing of the San .lose mission window as it was in padre times, nearly tv;o centuries ago. 0?d photos were collected. Many things were done. Many interested persons cooperated. The finished work is now on exhibition in the AAA window, Gunter Hotel. It is artistic and beautiful, and shows what the Mission Fathers instal-ed here. Vie believe that in no other way can the beauty of those San Jose carvings be preserved. There is no such thing as the physical restoration of the broken or worn parts. But onlybafev: can see this picture. Some method of reproducing it mustbe worked out, with its artistic values preserved, and a method of distribution must be planned. There are many homes that would be glad to have a copy. It is this I want to talk with you about. The picture is signed by Archbishop Broessarts. It is copyrighted. . It can be reproduced, and be protected a.s a valuable possession. Moreover, we have the old-time photos necessary to re-create in this art way the sculptured front of San Jose; to' bring that back with every statue and carved symbol shown, as it was when those padres dedicated ths.r masterpiece to their God....and we also have the story or historical description of those carvings, and the religion the padres had carved into every stone and statue of that front. Ve can let the artist and the photographer and other go to work on this front when we get this window distribution solved. Christmas is close. The window reproduction can be made an artistic and interesting present at a saving of expense to people who must make presents. This is one thought....for these difficult times. I think ample provision can be made for sales exoense. I sincerely believe that extended distribute ion will be a good contribution to historical interest and truth. The AAA office will take any message. I am not here at this "workshop" all th'e time. Sincerely,
