II.B.Ayres,Managing Director, Old Spanish Trail Association, Mobile, Ala. My dear Mr. Ayres: Your letter reached me last night nd was carefully noted. I enclose you clippings showing v/hat has transpired in the otute doad department of Florida. You can now rely upon the best cooperation for the 03T. Mr. Cocke, the former Highway Commissioner, is a close personal friend, and Mr. Tedder has been elected as first Vice-i'resident of the Dorth Florida Chamber of Commerce, and stands very close to Governor Hardee and the Governor’s brother-in-law,who is a capitalist at live Oak. There are other "influences" that ill work to insure the building of otate Hoad ^o. 1 as a perfect, hard-surfaced highway, from Pensacola to Jacksonville. 3o, do not oppose the highways from Pensacola to Plomaton nor Marianna to Dothan,MLa: they will bring a lot of tourists to the Old Spanish Trail, and many of them will go westward to Hew Origans,as well as eastward through Florida. The OCT will not suffer at all by those two highways leading northward, and we cannot afford to stir up anything regarding them: if we do, we will build up opposition to the Old Spanish Trail .association, and this v/i'ii be a calamity? I am close to matters here, and assure you that you and Mr. Marsh had better say nothing about the Pensacola-Tlomaton or Marianna-Dothan highways; we will all be .just that much ahead in getting more motor tourists to travel over sections of the Trail. Y/e will get all that is our s, plus I I still think you should complete the section between Hew °rleans and Mobile before coming to work in Florida;or connect up Mobile to Pens ’.cola before coming further east. By that time,Mr, Cocke and iar. Tedder will be in harness and we will call a big meeting at Victory bridge to give you opportunity to speak and we '..ill invite Mr. Cocke and Chairman Philips: I am working up a meeting to be hela at the bridge when the weather is warmer to insure us a pleasant day. ./ill give you ample notice and hope you './ill attend and speak, let this be your opening "gun" in Florida? Best regards../p I. expect to ,, Tars , at our iJfCC moeting in Tallanassee tomorrow. See North Florida Before You Buy Your Florida Farm THE ATLANTIC-TO-MISSISSIPP1 CANAL WILL CROSS NORTH FLORIDA
