Spanish History Research Library 113 College Street, St. Mary's Academy Building. October 19., 193;'. Lr. Paul J. Foik, Austin, Texas. My deal' Looter: I have been mulling over last night's meeting. We are still without a careful historical organization; this conclusion at least seems clear to me. I hoped a competent judicial group would emerge from that effort. Fred rias capabilities, and a number of us ’..ere ready to join if we couM move along steadily toward an established history. Will you let me 7,-rite you conversationally? I will try to lead up to something constructive. Four things last night were discouraging, because they indicated no advance.above the conditions that are so generally complained of respecting Fred's efforts. 1. 'Hie by-law fix&ig. 75;' membership and proxies to make a quorum for annual meetings. Fred did not permit the change suggested. By gathering proxies he will always have a hand-picked board. 3. The board selected last night contains no history gro nded person, unless you would include Mrs. Carvajal in this category.. Fred, of course, stands on his own. "ou will notice neither Judge V.'oodhul, nor Harry Hertzberg, nor L' on Lielman, ar e included; they probably begged to be excused. Judge Aubrey was not present; so whether he had consented to be president or not I do not know. The hard-working digging historians here in San Antonio were not present last night. So we are 3till without a judicially minded history group tha' will stand resolutely for stopping the confusions that are piled on confusions here in this burg. 3. Fred made two history declartanr.s last night; both wrong I am convinced. neither declaration is of importance except to show- what re still, apparently, face. He explains Yanaguana as the Indian village here at the present site of San Antonio, found by Teran and ..lanzanet in 1691, and the setting up of a bower to say mass, and so-forth, as the beginning of things.^ The fact is, these Indians -were of the Medina River and Teran and Manzanet named that river the San Antonio de Padua.
