Ayres, Managing Director, Old Spanish Trail, San Antonio, Texas. Dear Sir: I am in receipt of your letter of August 12, with reference to Mr. J. T. Francis, and note same very carefully. Mr. Francis spent about ten days in our City endeavoring to get the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce to make a cash payment^ of $250.00,and an agreement of $50.00 per month, for the publication of the Old Spanish Trail Magazine, and the establishment and maintainance cf a local office. After considering the proposition for about a week, the Chamber finally agreed that they would contribute $50.00 per month each month for a double page spread in the Magazine, in the event ' the proposition was accepted by "the other Chambers of Commerce along the Old Spanish Trail. fcThis obligation on the part of the Chamber of Commerce was not madej^y/'Tfiem, and since receiving your letter the matter will probably be held up until you rearrange matters, as per your letter of the ISth instant. Mr. Francis left our City owing the enclosed bill of $8.50 to Burgevs ?3arage. Inasmuch as Mr. Burge is a member of the Highway Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, and endeavoring to do all he possibly could to put over Mr. Francis’ proposition,he was very much provoked at his attitude regarding this bill. He will appreciate it very much if you will get in touch with Mr. Francis, and have him mail check to cover this amount. Awaiting your further favorf and assuring you that I am willing and anxious to serve every interest of the Old Spanish Trail, I am, with continued good wishes Very truly yours. HAM/o enc.
