OLD SPANISH TRAIL ASSOCIATION LOUISIANA DIVISION State headquarters, Crowley, La., May 18, 1989. To Those Addressed:- A meeting of the Louisiana DSvisionn of the Old Spanish Trail Association and all others interested, will be held r-.atithe Chamber of Commerce, Court House, Lafayette, on Wednesday, May 22, 1929, at 2:30 P. Representatives have previously been named to represent every city and town on the Trail in Louisiana and we would'like to have everyone of such representatives present at the meeting. In addition to such representatives this letter of invitation is forwarded to Chambers of Commerce, Mayors, etc., who are also cordially anvited and urged to atte the meeting. Harrel Ayres, Managing Director, of the Old Spanish Trail Assoe-iation'has issued a scurrilous letter to the press of the State, seriously reflecting on the integrity and purpose of the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Division who have been earnestly endeavoring to assist in working out a reorganization of the Old Spanish Trail Association, so as to eliminate the descrepancies of the present organ© ization and that were responsible for the refusal of the Lou. hsiana Division in January to offer further financial support to the San Antonio headq.uarters. Definite plans are underway at this time for a National Convention to reorganize the Old Spanish Trail Association as a result of some of the effort of the Leaiaia.na Division and presumably Ayres resents our efforts in this direction,. The purposes of the meeting at lafayeete will be : 1 -'Discuss and adopt plans for future operation of our Louisiana Division. Your Executive Committee have devoted tine and effort as a colunteer service to promote the Old Spanish Trail in Louisiana. Harrel Ayres states in his letter to the press that your Executive Committee and officers have misrepresented the Louisiana Division and reports will be submitted to you by our Executive Committee for your approval or disapproval of our actions, si. ce the date of our last meeting. Ayres claims he " will help Louisiana get to the bottom of any question1' Ayres has been invited to attend the Lafayette meeting and urged to attend. 2 - Report from your Executive Committee on funds subscribed in Louisiana and disposition of such funds. 3 - National Convention to reorganize Old Spanish Trail Association will be held in August. Louisiana Division should decide on participation or non-participation. In view of the scurrilous and unwarranted attack by Harrel Ayres on the honest and sincere efforts of the officers of our Louisiana Division and tin necessity for representatives of all cities and towns in Louisiana to either approve or disapprove the action of your Executive Committee, we trust that every city and town on the highway in Louisiana will have a good delegation present at the meeting and you are urged to attend the meeting and bring others with you. This call for a meeting to discuss the matters outline is endorsed, by Julius Dupont, President', P. V. Mouton, Treasurer, and W. 3. Gill Secretary, Louisiana Division, Olin Linn, Vice President, coulcl not be reached in time to obtain his approval. Remember the time and place, Wednesday, Mgty 22, 2:30 P. M.
