COPY NEW ORLEANS S 8 S 0 C I A T I 0 H OF COMMERCE August 8, 1983. Mr. H. B. Ayres, Managing Director, Old Spanish Trail, San Antonio, Texas. Dear Mr. Ayres: -Old Spanish i>rail- When you were in my office the other day, you will remember that I dictated a letter to Congressmen James O'Connor, in whose district the New Orleans link of the Spanish Trail lies. Mr. O’Connor came to the office today and we discussed the matter in detail. He is deeply interested and has told me that he will get in behind the movement in every way that he can. On his return to Washington in a few days he will call upon the War Department and discuss with them their plans and what they are prepared to do to further its development. He will also discuss the matter with the Highway Commission of the Government. I am asking the State Highway Department of Louisiana to advise me fully what they iiave done and what they are prepared to do for the completion of this link. I will also ask the state Highway Commission of Mississippi for a report on what they are doing and will forward these reports to Mr. O'Connor. I would suggest that you write to him at Length and give him all the information you can. I think that these reports and the information he Can gain at Washington will give us a good starting point to put some strong propo-ganda behind the movement. I think the idea I discussed with you of arousing the people along the entire length of the Old Spanish ira.il to the need of the adequate completion of the New Orleans link,, together with the bridges, could be carried out. Very truly. Walter Parker, General Manager. ?/ P s NEW ORLEANS: AMERICA'S MOST INTERESTING CITY.
