- 2 - On my return trip I arranged with the towns along the line to entertain our caravan as follows: Leave San Antonio Monday July 3rd, lunch with the OST and Chamber of Commerce at Kerrville. The Junction people are putting on a big fish fry and are going to entertain us for the full nigjit and morning. Tuesday, July 4th, lunch at Sonora. Night at Ozona, at which place we will have a good roads program and hope to start their bond issue campaign at that time. Wednesday, Lunch at Sheffield. Wednesday night, fish fry at Ft. Stockton, at which time wfii will also launch their bond issue campaign. Thursday, lunch at Balmorhea, and in to camp that afternoon. y: ■ The first session of the convention will be held that ar&fcer- J noon in the camp, and the most of the time Friday will be devoted to showing the legislators the beauties of the Park as a state proposition, and the same will be true of Satur&ayi. The Alpine people are going to have a two day celebration of the Old Settlers Re-Union and Cow-boys Roundup, 10th to l^th, and they have extended an invitation to the OST convention to go over to Alpine and be the guests of the Alpine people until! Wednesday morning. Some of th&SMvill aGcept this, but the most will remain in camp until Monday morning then drive over to Alpine. The Ft. Worth Chamber of Commerce has promised to put on a similar caravan out of Ft. Worth on the Texas Central Highway via San Angelo, following the Orient in to Ft. Stockton, and they also expect to get a good many delegates from the Bankhead, as they will detour all of their traffic over the Centrals on account of the construction work in West Texas. In addition to this we are asking all of the automobile clubs of the State to participate in the program and bring every senator and representative they can possibly get hold of. We have to spread out and make it a big thing in order to put the park proposition over when the Legislature meets. This is mighty fine Old Spanish Trail advertising, and I believe that we will have very little trouble in collecting memberships along the route. I have the promise of at least $5,000 out of El Paso, and I am invited to come out there and put on ay campaign for support following the Davis Mountains convention. Of course, the most of the western counties have been awfully hard hit the last two years on account of low prices for their stuff and about two counties have had to ship in feed for their range cattle for from four to six months. But now they are getting all the rain they need and the price of wool is twice as high as they had expected it to be, and they will be able to support the OST possibly 50 per coat of what they ought to do under ordinary circumstances. Up until 30 days ago I didn't have the nerve to even ask anybody between Junction and El Paso for a dollar. I am going to start our membership man out ofvthis route the latter part of next week. We have gotten a lot of publicity all along the line. The Houston Chronicle sent 7/asson and we split, the expense with the Chronicle, and they covered our trip thoroly and have given us an awful lot of good publicity. The Express has had something almost every day for two weeks and will give us a page write-up with pictures
