I.e-Blanc: Although silent, 1 have not been idle in behalf of the Old Spanish Trail highway, but working to get the most power put upon the propos iti on ,to speed up its completion. Governor °atts very kindly sent letters to all Governors of the states along the '•‘•'rail.asking their co-operation in the matter, and asking then to send letters which might be read at the meeting at “arianna , July l«8th,to influence the board of Count;’- Commissioners of Jackson County to sell the county time warrants • The letters cane, hut too late for that meeting; so I took them to Quincy,on Aug. 2Cth, when bids were opened on the ^adsden County bridge bonds. State Highway Commissioner W.F.Cocke took Governor Sidney J.Catts and yo i zc secretary to this meeting. The Governor made a good speech, and x gave the letters to the County Clerk to read to the people present, it el] 'ado a big hit, but as the bids we re below par,all were rejected and rc-advertised,to be opened on Sent. 21st- Mr * Cocke will be there, and i may attend. I think there will he no slip, this time,as the State Hoad department will make up any amount lacking for construction of the bridge across the Apalachicola river,in case the bids “ept- 21st. should agaib be below par- Time is the essence the thing, and we will find some way 4>o force a sale of the bonds. The war department has put this bridge ahead of one asked for for some point between dew ¥ork and bos ton; this shows what an important link it is in coast defense? ko will tackle the other bridges in Florida, westward, at next session of Legislatore. V*iUpkeep you posted, even if you are too busy to answer letters? I wrote President bill ans,but he did not reply. Has he gone to war? Best regards and wishes. Very truly.
