San Antonio, Texas, Hay 26th, 1925. The Highway Commission, Austin, Texas. Gentlemen: I have just returned to ray office and find here the enclosed letter from J. C. Baumgarten, Schulenburg, Texas, and also petition signed by 131 citizens (including I notice Senator Russek) resnecting the changing of the name of the Old Spanish Trail. I beg to advise we are receiving information from eastward and westward that this change of name is not wanted. Offers are also being made to join a delegation to go to Austin. Our press clipping service also shows articlos and editorials from various parts of the State, not one of which has endorsed the change. Host of those editorials feel that established national highways should not be given new local names for it means great confusion to travelers on overland journeys. These editorials also recognize the great work that has been done the past ten years by the Old Spanish Trail memberships in all the OST states across the continent, and also recognise the extensive good will built up all over the United States, and that instead of hurting or interfereing with it the Highway Department of Texas should give cordial cooperation toward building up its travel service. The Old Spanish Trail is an asset of great value to Texas and the South. Will you kindly send to us a copy of tho minutes respecting this change of name? Thanking you, we ore Very truly yours.
