AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Your message of congratulation at the ceremony conferring the Cross of the Royal Order of Isabel la Catolioa of Spain on Ilarral Ayres for his Old Spanish Trail work was appreciated by all of us. So many letters and telegrams were received, and everyone seemed so pleased, I have wanted to find a way to tell you something of that unusual ceremony. We were all thrilled, for a bit of Old World diplomacy was enacted here among us and the impressive ceremony showed how far the fame of the work has traveled and how high the standards reaohed. The "Texas Pioneer" is carrying an interesting report, including the Spanish address and a picture of the jeweled cross} I am having a copy of the magazine sent to you. The "Texas Monthly" (magazine, Dallas, Texas) has written that its June number will contain a comprehensive article, and a Spanish translation has been prepared for publication in Spain. All letters and telegrams paid high tribute to Harral Ayres for his work. Many hoped ways would be found to keep on building up the travel movement and of developing the old history that attracts so many. Don Ubarri showed he was pleased with the communications and with the character and number of guests present and felt the act of his Government had been nicely received by the Old Spanish Trail people. We all thank you for your thoughtfulness. I am glad it was my privilege to have had so distinguished and gratifying an event at my home. Everyone helped nicely. Most sincerely yours, San Antonio, Texas, June 10, 1930.
