On his return to Headquarters the Managing Director took up with San Antonio members the question of a local governing board like a bank or business corporation to help administer OST affairs. The national Board of Directors cannot meet readily. Five business men and bankers were appointed and they pledged their time and service to the business-like administration of the moneys and affairs intrusted by the people to the Association. This Board has and is giving splendid service. Birkhead & Lang were retained as attorneys and W. M. Aikman, Inc., as auditors. Next to the work accomplished at Washington the creation of this Executive Board was the greatest single step in the interest of this enterprise, for it assures the observance of the business policies laid down, and it frees the managing executive to go where the demands of the work require. It also is making service possible to the member-communities which heretofore has been difficult. INI arch 26-28,1923, the National Convention was hold at New Orleans and more work of great importance was accomplished. From now on you will see many results of value and interest. Now the section Service Haps, which have been in process for a long while, are being issued. Soon the whole highway will have them, and tourist agencies thruout the United States will carry them. It has been necessary to organize a special force for this map service; research, drafting, field work, intelligent writing and other needs arc involved. The first of these Service Maps is enclosed; the others are on the press. In October a series for northern tourists will be issued. Every Service Map should be an improvement for we intend the Old Spanish Trail lines to have the best map service in the United States, and your suggestion is invited. The marking is progressing across Mississippi now. It soon will be across the continent. Big construction is in progress. It will not be long before all tbe people will know the Old Spanish Trail is ready for them. Members everywhere are working to make their localities inviting. It is encouraging to know that the Old Spanish Trail keeps developing so substantially, and that men and women come forward to help the adminstration keep pace with the needs. Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are now coming to our aid with a line body of members. Our marking, map and other service will soon be in force in the East. Flordia will soon be open.
