The Geographic also shows a Spanish flag of the 1705 period, Beaumont collection, No. 1145, carrying on a white field a Castilian coat-of-arms, crown at top, wreathed with the collar of the Golden Fleece, and with "shields" (not identified) suspended at the sides.
The status of this flag is not clear, at this writing. The record is 1705. The Spanish Bourbon dynasty began in 1700.
Preble, quoted above, stated the Burgundian flag (red raguled
some
Saltire) of Carlos V was used for/250 years. The Geographic Magazine states this Burgundian flag (illustration 15) was carried by Spanish troops in the Mexican War of Independence and that one now reposes in the Mexico City museum. This war continued 1810-1821. Prom Carlos V to this Mexican War id a spread of from 1516 to 1821. More information is needed.
