St Andrew to Clermont,Mount Dora,keesburg,Eustis and Umatilla. At the time I had so much in the newspapers about him and the good he could do this scenic section of Florida,we had letters from those towns sug-gesting that they would like to have him visit them,if the costs were not prohibitive. Now I am suggesting one fund to cover the whole trip to be raised on a population basis, I think it will go through®
A letter from '7.W.Stewart,of Balmorhea,the other day,brought the news that he had just returned from Austin whero he had succeeded1 in having the road from Pecos to Fort Davis,via Balmorhea and Limpia canyon,designated as "State Park Highway". While this settles nothing regarding the designation of the state park area,in the Davis‘mount™ ains,it stergthens the state park idea to a certain extent and will have its weight when the state park matter is finally brought,officially,to the attention of the next legislature®
If you have it not and want it for your files,as the OST is favorably mentioned,you should get a copy of the January number of "Texas Municipalities" it has four or five pages of description of the proposed Davis Mountain State park written by yours truly.
I am not always going to be suffering from the lassitude which now seems to have me in thrall and when I do snap out of it I'll try to make amends for present neglect by writing some road stories which will help you collaterally, if not directly. I suppose you have seen the matter I have been sending out from Clermont with the hope of inducing the holding of a world'3 fair in Tampa in 1918-9 commemorative of the 400th anniversary of the landing of de Narvaez. If we can arouse interest it will have more to do with the creation of a disposition on the part of the people of all the state to contribute to good roads funds than any other single agency ot which I can think at the moment. It will be a fair which will be attended by mors people in wutomobiles than any other event of its kind ever held in the United States,or,for that matter,of the world. I may not put it over but I have made people read and think and talk about it. I
